Created by Norseman
Occupation: Thor's messenger and former bondservant Legal Status: Citizen of Asgard Identity: Secret Place of Birth: Asgard Marital Status: Married Known Relatives: Thorgerd (Wife), Roskva (Sister) Base of Operations: Bilskirnir and Valhalla, Asgard and Thingstead, Norway Past Group Affiliations: Known Powers: Hyper Running: Un. Hyper Speed: Un. This combined with the above hyper running means he moves along the ground at Unearthly Airspeed, as well as being able to perform actions 100 times faster than normal. Invulnerabilities: As an lesser-Asgardian, Thialfi's dense skin provides Poor protection against all forms of physical and energy damage. His resistance to cold is considered Remarkable. Tarn Helm: Thialfi was given this item by Thor to allow him to more easily disguise himself during his stay on Earth. It was originally worn by Siegfried during the last 'Age of Heroes,' and has had an additional enchantment placed upon it from its last use.
Talents: Eidetic Memory Contacts: Many Asgardian Gods, some giants, due to the connection with Thor, scattered about the nine plains. Role-Playing Notes: If followers of Asatru makes the connection that he is actually a member of the Norse pantheon, they may not be discrete with that knowledge. This could cause some problems for him on Earth, but it could cause more problems for the master of Bilskirnir (namely Thor) History: Thialfi was a bondservant (thrall) of Thor. He and his sister were given to Thor after Thialfi crippled one of his goats. He has proven himself as capable, loyal and brave, taking on several opponents of his Lord. His destiny has not been defined by the Norns, as such, the Eddas provide only a glimpse into he will become. Unlike many others of the Norse pantheon, he does not even know if he will survive to fight during Ragnarok. Recently it has come to Odin's attention that a new 'Age of Heroes' approaches on Midgard and has asked his son, Thor, to go to Earth and make sure that events there do not hasten the arrival of Ragnarok. (Since the coming of Ragnarok has been foretold, but not the time that it arrives, Ragnarok could start tomorrow or millions of years in the future.) Thor believes that he is bound by the Oath that Odin swore nearly a thousand years ago to not attempt to gain followers on Earth for a duration of no less than two-thousand years. As such, it could possible break that Oath. Odin agreed, so gave the task to Thor's hall, Bilskirnir. Thor's children had not been sworn to Odin at the time of the Oath, or most of his servants for that matter. Thor gave the task to Thrud, and gave to her the sword named needless, used by two of Scandinavia's greatest heroes during the last 'Age of Heroes'. Thor's messenger, Thialfi, was commanded to take up residence in a small village near an ancient site called Thingstead in Norway. It is here, strongly hidden, that the base of the Bifrost bridge can be found. He will relay any message from Thrud to Bilskirnir, or from Bilskirnir back to Thrud. Shortly after his arrival, he was visited by Thor's older son, Magni. Magni left an open-ended threat against his sister (also a former bondservant to Thor) if he ever informed Thrud that he was on Earth. Of course, Thialfi agreed. Upon informing Thor of the agreement, Thor reassured Thialfi that nothing ill would befall his sister. Additional Notes: Asgardians age normally. Any effects of aging are negated however by the consumption of a Golden Apple from Asgard that are protected by the Goddess Idun. Upon the consumption of one of these fruits, the eater returns to the age that they first ate one of these apples. (Late Teens/Early Twenties for Thialfi). An apple has no visible effect, the first time one is eaten. Some of the information in the history above has been fabricated. He is a servant of Thor and the hall of Bilskirnir, as is his sister. He is very fast, and a capable fighter. He and Thor have been in several stories depicted by the Eddas, but I'm still looking for more information. I have provided a tie into current Marvel continuity: The Tarn-Helm was originally used by Seigfried, though it has been modified to assist him in his duties. Slaves, or bondservants or Thralls, in the ancient Scandinavian culture, were treated well and with dignity. Many ate with their masters and shared friendships and confidences. Thralldom was seldom permanent, and after their indenture were often accepted into the family. I am depicting Thialfi after his indenture. He is no longer Thor's slave, but has stayed on as his messenger and servant of his free will. |
