History: Carol Danvers entered the Air Force at an early age and rapidly rose to become one of the leading agents in military intelligence. She worked alongside her partner Michael Rossi, and met Logan sometime in this period. Upon leaving her work as a spy, she became security chief at Cape Canaveral for NASA, and was on-hand when the Kree agent known as Captain Marvel came to Earth. Although she suspected Mar-Vell's cover identity as a spy, she felt an equal trust and romantic attraction for him. During a battle between Mar-Vell and his Kree foe Colonel Yon-Rogg at a hidden Kree base on Earth, Carol Danvers was accidentally irradiated by the unknown energies of the Psyche-Magnetron, a device built by the Kree for communication as well as for weaponry. It is believed that this device altered her based on her wish to become Captain Marvel's equal. Although not specifically designed to work with humans, the radiation from the machine eventually altered Carol's entire genetic structure, making her a hybrid of the best attributes of human and Kree and granted her the technical knowledge of a Kree military officer, augmenting her physiology to super-human levels, enabling her to fly, and giving her a seventh sense. When these powers manifested themselves, she adopted the costumed identity of Ms. Marvel, and fought alien invasion, crime, and super-powered villains in New York City while working as a freelance magazine writer/editor. During this time, she earned the friendship of many other heroes, even becoming a member of the mighty Avengers. Soon after joining the Avengers, however, Carol fell under the mental domination of Marcus, son of the extra-dimensional time traveler Immortus, who impregnated her against her will in an elaborate scheme to escape his prison in Limbo by causing Carol to give birth to a child that was Marcus himself. Marcus was born into our reality through Carol, and would have died. Carol, believing to be acting under her own influence, fled to Limbo with Marcus, only to have Marcus die and stranding Carol in Limbo. Eventually, Carol freed herself of his control, but later encountered the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants II where she fought Rogue. Rogue's mutant powers unwittingly drained away virtually all of Carol's Ms. Marvel abilities and all of her memories leaving her with just her augmented genotype. With the help of the mutant telepath, Professor X, Carol was able to recover most of her memories, but the emotional ties to them were gone. Rogue went on to develop a multiple personality disorder with one of the personalities being based on the memories of Carol Danvers. Some time later, while traveling with the X-men, Carol was abducted by the alien Brood, who subjected her to an evolutionary ray which triggered the latent potential of Carol's Kree-enhanced genes, giving her super powers which led Carol to call herself "Binary." She was among the X-Men and Starjammers when they captured and saved Professor X from becoming host to a Brood Queen by cloning him a new body and transplanting his mind into it. Not feeling any particular attachment for the people or places in her restored memories. She left Earth to pursue adventures with the Starjammers. During the Kree-Shi'ar War, Carol came to exchange blows with Quasar III during Operation Galactic Storm. When Empress Lilandra recalled the nega-bomb that was headed for Kree space, Binary was assigned to retrieve it. The ship carrying the bomb came through the stargate near Earth's sun causing it to become unstable. After a brief battle between her and Quasar III, Carol abandoned her mission to stop the bomb in order to save the sun and the Earth. She nearly died saving the sun and was taken by Quasar III to the Avengers mansion to recover. ). When the Starjammers came to get her, Carol decided to remain on Earth to attempt to re-establish her former life, but found her lack of emotional ties to her memories an insurmountable barrier. In addition, the power source that Carol derived her Binary powers from began to fade. Around this time, Carol developed alcoholism. Carol was among the members of the Avengers who were captured by Morgan Le Fay and mind controlled into becoming her personal guard, the Queen's Vengeance. While under her control she went by the name Lady Marvel. Carol was eventually freed and helped defeat Morgan Le Fay. Carol soon decided to return to the Avengers. She changed her code name to Warbird and returned to an earlier version of her costume, trying desperately to be accepted by the Avengers. This is when she noticed that she had trouble accessing her Binary powers. She helped the Avengers in recovering a crashed plane from Project Pegasus, but was opposed by the Squadron Supreme, who were being mind controlled by the Corruptor. In the fray she faced Hyperion, but was soundly defeated when she couldn't become Binary. This led to taking solace in drinking. Carol's alcoholism became an increasing detriment to the team, endangering lives and compromising Carol's judgment. Carol quit the team when the group held a formal inquiry into her actions. Carol moved to the Seattle area, pursuing a writing career. She was been able to help Tony Stark, Iron Man, in an occasional battle, and Stark helped Carol battle her alcoholism. After dealing with her drinking problems she rejoined the Avengers and started dating the Vision II. Additional Notes: Carol is in no way connected with Ms. Marvel II, who was Sharon Ventura, an occasional member of the Fantastic Four. Depowered, Carol had the following stats: |
